Welcome to Raising Good Humans. I am Dr. Lisa Pestman and today's episode I'm interviewing Dr.

0:13.5

Ibn Kendi. He's an American author, he's a professor, he's an anti-racism activist.

0:20.5

He's written so many books, children's books for adults, books on raising anti-racist children,

0:26.8

workbooks, and I wanted to have him on because we've had a lot of conversations

0:32.4

since the Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action was illegal and I can't think of anybody

0:40.0

better to talk about it than Dr. Kendi and then of course to talk about what we can be doing

0:48.5

so that you know as he puts it we're not just armchair anti-racists but I also wanted to have

0:54.3

a candid conversation with him because I want to speak to people for whom they care about this

1:00.0

but it's not going to be the central focus of their parenting versus saying that the only way to

1:08.4

be anti-racist is to be a revolutionary because I want to address the reality that our whole world

1:14.7

all of our children are better off when we promote anti-racism and also that we have a lot on our

1:22.9

minds and there's definitely a disconnect between the anti-racism movement and the huge space

1:30.6

of parents who support anti-racism and who want to do right in the world and raise their

1:36.4

kid an anti-racist but for whom it is not their central focus and people who are overtly

1:45.3

disinterested in making anti-racism a part of raising their children. So that's a hard conversation

1:51.8

to have with such a luminary because he's the one to talk about this and yet I wanted him to speak

2:00.2

to every parent and so he did which is so cool. There's so much more that you can get from his work,

2:08.0

he has beautiful children's books, magnolia flower, goodnight racism, the making of butterflies

2:13.8

and then he has how to raise an anti-racist and how to be a young anti-racist. If you enjoy this

2:21.1

episode please don't hesitate to write a little review, say what you specifically liked and of course

2:27.5

give it a five-star rating. Both of those things help highlight the podcast and get the word out there
