Summary

ANOTHER YEAR DOWN! What did I learn this year? What have I been reflecting on the most? From RED-S recovery to carbon plated shoes, to abolishing the binary of "rehab" vs. strength training, to why welcoming runners of ALL paces into our community is important (and why I want YOU to stop being ashamed of your paces), it's time for another year-end reflection! Thank you for making 2023 the best year yet of The Running Explained Podcast! With love, gratitude, and all the miles, Coach Elisabeth

Welcome to the Running Explain podcast. I'm your host, Elizabeth. I'm a marathoner, coach, and answer seeker.

0:07.3

When I first started running at the age of 29, I had so many questions and what felt like nowhere to turn to for answers.

0:14.1

And now I'm here to answer all your running questions about anything that you might want to know.

0:18.2

If you're a new runner or you've been doing this for a long time,

0:21.0

there's always something more to learn about running. So let's get started. Hello everyone and

0:26.9

welcome to the final episode of the year of the Running Explain podcast. It is a little weird, a little

0:33.3

surreal, a little wild that I'm recording this episode now at the end of the third season,

0:39.9

almost 150 episodes in. For those of you who have been with me since the very beginning,

0:45.2

you will know that this podcast started as a series of Instagram lives that I did from my

0:51.2

office floor on Wednesdays from 12 to 1 p.m.

0:56.6

And then I thought, why am I doing this as on Instagram live?

1:00.5

This is so obviously a podcast.

1:03.3

And now here we are, which is absolutely wild.

1:07.1

And I think is now kind of become tradition, as in I did it last year,

1:10.7

and I'm going to do it again this year too. I would like to end the year with a wrap-up episode talking about the things that I learned, stuff that I learned this year. Now, a lot of it's going to be like, I didn't know that before. This is super cool. Hey, guys, remember when we learned this fact from my guest on this episode? but we're also going to learn, I'm going to think about, talk about some other things that are more like what I learned, grew about, had realizations about those more intangible life slash running lessons, if you will. What did we learn this year?

1:47.6

So there's, like I said, in the intro to this podcast, there's always more to learn. Some of it is

1:55.4

factual. It's a factual. Factual. Factual, it's not a word. Factual, tangible. Hey, there is a thing that I learned, and now I know this

2:04.3

thing now, I know this fact, I learned that this thing about mitochondria or that thing about

2:09.0

traveling for races. But there's also the, I learned this thing about myself. I learned this thing

2:15.9

about who I am and what it means in the context of myself as a person.

2:22.9

So all of those things, there's always more to learn. So what did I learn this year?

2:30.6

The very first thing I want to talk about that I learned, and this is, we're going to start
