Summary

Why did the psalmist feel the need to remind readers of everything the Lord did for them? Today, Ben Krejci and Ethan Howard are jumping into Psalm 78 and talking about how we know who God is because of how he has revealed himself. God is the initiator of his relationship with Israel, even in their sin. He consistently pursues them despite their sin and rebellion. This psalm shows us who God is, who we are, and who we are in right relationship to Him in Christ. As we look back at how God was faithful to Israel, we can be reminded of how He is always faithful to us today.

0:21.9	hair appointment today. But today we are going through Psalm 78 with the one and only Ethan Howard.
0:29.0	So good to be here. Hey Ethan, man, let's get right into it. Yeah, yeah, I would love to. Psalm 78 is a
0:35.6	little bit of a longer psalm and it is pretty much a historical psalm, which begs the question, why would we even have this in the Psalms in the first place?
0:45.6	And it's an incredible reality that to really know God is to know how he has revealed himself in one of the primary ways that God has revealed himself is through his works.
0:55.5	And we see his works primarily in the Old Testament through his people, Israel. And just over and over and over again,
1:01.9	it is him who is starting the relationship towards Israel. He is the one who continues to renew
1:09.2	his relationship with Israel. Even in their sin,
1:12.8	he over and over, you see yet, yet, yet, and that might be in regards to Israel in their rebellion
1:19.5	or into God renewing the covenant and continuing to pursue them. And it just shows that not only
1:27.3	is worship something of praising God or singing to him,
1:31.1	but it is also acknowledging who he is, who we are in a right relationship to him.
1:36.7	And a beautiful reality of that we can actually come back to God over what he has done,
1:42.6	not only in the past and in the church, but in our
1:46.7	own lives and the lives of others, how we see him working. It's just something that we don't have
1:52.7	to grow weary of, but it's going to be times when we don't necessarily see how God is working,
1:58.8	but we can go back to Psalms like these and see that it's not just
2:03.1	a narrative plucked out, but it's a hindsight perspective and seeing exactly what God has done
