Yesterday, John ended 1 John 1 with a real look at our hearts, that if we claim to have

not sinned, we make Jesus a liar. The truth is that we have all fallen short of God's glory.

Yet in Christ, we are invited to come before God and confess our sins, sure that he is faithful to forgive. Today, in Christ we are invited to come before God and confess our sins sure that he is faithful to

forgive. Today in chapter two John picks up on this thought and begins today's chapter with

My little children I am writing to you these things so that you may not sin. Your thoughts may have

Let's take a moment to remember what was going on in Asia Minor. False teachers were casting doubt about

foundational truths of the Christian faith, like Christ's humanity. To guard the Christians against

falling prey to false teaching, John wishes that they

would not sin. Sin separates us from God and makes us susceptible to the lies of Satan. That is

exactly the opposite of what John wants for his dear friends. He reminds his readers that when they

do sin, Jesus advocates for us in heaven.

When we sin, we are covered in the love of Christ.
