Two weeks ago, I was speaking with Dale Alquist, the president of the Chesterton Society,

I first came across Dr. Clark's book towards the end of our study of The Great Divorce.

You may recall that in one of the later chapters, Lewis's guide, George MacDonald, talks

about a man named Sir Archibald.

Now, Sir Archibald was a man who was obsessed with survival, but when he arrived in the

foothills of heaven, he found that he was at a complete loss,

and so he returned to the grey town. And as I was reading that chapter in preparation for our

episode, there seemed to be just so many little details mentioned about Sir Archbold that I became

convinced that Lewis had to have someone in mind when he wrote about that character.

And as I was researching this, I reached out to William Flaherty, the chat behind the Essential

He, in turn, pointed me to Dr. Clark's book, where he lays out a very compelling case that Sir Archibald's

real name was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes Mysteries. Naturally, Matt and I then
