Tiffany here and today we take a look at some similar passages found in Matthew and Luke. You likely noticed there are quite

a few parables in these passages. While we won't be able to discuss each one, we will take a closer look at the commissioning of Jesus's

disciples and the parable of the sower.

And as we study, we will see what it means to take up our cross for Christ and the importance of

planting his word deep in our hearts. Let's begin today with Jesus's

commissioning of his disciples.

Before he commissions them in chapter 10,

we read about the plentiful harvest

in Matthew 9 verses 35 through 38.

Jesus traveled to many towns and cities. He preached, healed,

drove out demons, and showed great compassion on the people. He calls them

lost sheep without a shepherd and tells his disciples that the

harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Jesus then gathers the disciples and sends them out to the lost sheep of Israel to harvest.

He gives them the authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal.

As his commissioned spiritual army,

Jesus tells them what they are to do as they go out.

They are only to go to Jewish towns.
