0:35.0	Today, we come to Leviticus 16 through 18 and we have a lot of ground to cover, so let's
0:41.9	go ahead and dive in.
0:44.0	You know, it can be easy to breeze by chapter 16 as we read through Leviticus.
0:48.9	At first glance, it can seem like just another sacrificial service with a lot of rules and
0:54.0	regulations, but the day of atonement was the most holy day of the year for Israel.
0:59.9	You may know it today as Yam Kapoor.
1:03.0	But more importantly, this holy day foreshadowed all that Jesus came to the earth to do on
1:08.5	our behalf.
1:10.2	The day of atonement occurred one day each year.
1:13.5	Its purpose is found in the final verse of the chapter when God says, this is to be
1:18.6	a permanent statute for you to make atonement for the Israelites once a year because of all
1:24.8	their sins.
1:26.6	In order to hold back the wrath of God, atonement had to be made for the sin of the nation.
