For today's episode, we're going back to September 1983. On September 16th,

1983, up-and-coming action film star Arnold Schwarzenegger became a U.S. citizen.

Schwarzenegger was born in July 1947 in Thal, a small town in Austria.

He got into bodybuilding and dominated every competition he was in.

In 1968, he moved to California.

Schwarzenegger's lifelong goal was again to acting.

His first role was in 1970s, Hercules in New York.

However, another actor's voice was dubbed over his own.

In 1982, he got another starring role as Conan the Barbarian. This time, Schwarzenegger's

real voice was used. Conan was a commercial success and it became a cult hit. A year after

becoming an American citizen, Schwarzenegger got the role that launched him into international stardom, playing the titular role in The Terminator.

He went on to become one of the biggest action movie stars of all time, and he was also the governor of California from 2003 to 2011.

On September 17, 1983, Vanessa Williams was crowned Miss America, becoming the first

African-American woman to win the title. A couple months before the end of her reign,

new photos of Williams taken before she entered the pageant, were purchased by Pennhouse

magazine, and they were eventually published. After being pressured by organizers of Miss America, Williams resigned.
