Today I'm going to be talking to Julia Shondstadt.

She's from Berlin.

She's an award-winning portrait photographer

and video director.

She studied photography design at Berlin's iconic, excuse my accent, Lettverin, and

under Ma, sorry I'm laughing at how bad my pronunciation of foreign words is Lett Véin, and earned a master's in photography at the

renowned goldsmiths University of London I can pronounce those words she's got

several scholarships under her belt she's now based in London working between

Germany and the UK. Her 16-BARS project is a critical

examination of the penal system in Germany and was recognized and awarded by the Guardian

in 2014. Subsequently in 2015 a book was published on the same topic by a German publisher.

In her highly stylized work, she always seeks to explore the dynamic between composition and beauty in the world she creates.

Her work in feminist adult cinema, which is what we're mostly talking about today, is an expedition into this new genre,

fusioning her background of music and video with erotic film.

So I wanted to know first of all about you, your background, how you got into making the work that you make.

So tell me the whole story.

Okay, so I guess whenever people ask me how I got started an adult film specifically, I feel the need to say that I don't actually see myself as an adult filmmaker per se, you know, it really sits in with all the other

work that I do, you know, as a creative or as a photographer and as a director.
