I just casually look towards a canal and I saw what I thought was a mannequin.

August 2nd, 1998, the body of a brilliant young scientist has found dead near the campus of Georgetown University. It was a gruesome scene.

Walking up to the body, it became apparent that there had been a sexual assault.

For more than six years, DC police had no leads and no suspects. Then another disturbing discovery. She wasn't his only victim.

As these cases went on, the more the victims resisted, the more violent he became.

One man committing a series of heinous crimes against women, but then he just stops. 10 years go by, then 20.

We've got to get into a hospital and get into an area that's semi-controlled, that has on-site security and murder somebody and then just vanish.

You could walk around that hospital freely. There were no check-in points. You have to give a badge, you have to give your ID.

Based on how security is in hospitals today, I would say yes, it was very inadequate. From what I understand, they only had one security officer who was patrolling the floors.

So it was woefully inadequate at the time.

The murder of Sherry Crandell has gone unsolved for 23 years. The DNA and fingerprints which in any investigation would be a huge benefit and have never been linked to anyone.
