What we were doing was we were serving grand jury subpoenas on a lot of people.

The police position was that this is completely voluntary.

People want to cooperate to find a murderer.

And we knew differently from speaking to the union members.

They did a story with Chief Farrell on the front page of the USA today. I mean, if you didn't know

about it before that story came out, you sure heard about it afterwards.

So it made national news.

Sure.

I'm sure everyone was nervous, especially the women.

As January of 1998 slipped into February and February into March, the public's interest in the curious murder of Sherry Crandall slowly began to fade.

With no suspects and no arrests, the story fell off the front pages of the local D.C. newspapers
