This episode is actually the first episode of our second season.

It's hard to believe we started this podcast a year ago.

If you've been listening all along, we can't thank you enough.

Just a note for our new season,

we're going to change the schedule and release a new episode every other week. We want to keep the

quality of the episodes high instead of rushing to get them done. We also don't want you to get

sick of my monotone voice. And now, for today's episode, we're going back to the summer of 1980.

That summer, the United States suffered a massive heat wave that killed more than 1,700 people. On July 16th, at the 1980

Republican National Convention in Detroit, Michigan, Ronald Reagan was nominated for president.

A month later, President Jimmy Carter was re-nominated at the 1980 Democratic National

Convention in New York City. The Olympics were held in Moscow, the Soviet Union. 65 countries,

including Canada, China, Israel, Japan, South Korea, and the United States boycott the Games to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, which started in December 1979.

The biggest movies that summer, where the Empire strikes back, airplane, and smoking the bandit too.

On the radio, you'd probably hear the number one hits Fuggy Town by Lips Inc. coming up by Paul McCartney and Magic by

Lovia Newton and John. The eventful summer, Sabrina Gonzalez and John Riggins, who were both

18, met while working for the Recreation Department for the city of Davis, California.

Riggins was an excellent athlete who excelled at soccer and baseball.

Gonsalves was passionate about horses.

Eventually, the two started dating.

That autumn, the couple was attending the University of California, Davis.
