Welcome to Strange and Unexplained with me, Daisy Egan.

I'm a writer and an actor who believes in witches, but not the kind that fly on broomsticks,

and generally doesn't believe in ghosts, especially not the kind that haunt innocent people for

no reason.

But I do believe that people are impressionable and really want to believe in things like ghosts

and witches and ghost witches.

So much so that some true weirdness can just manifest from that believing.

This week I'll tell you the tale of what has been called America's greatest ghost story.

A tale that includes ethnic cleansing, aggrieved neighbors, and a family whose manifest destiny

seemed to have come with a really angry spirit.

This is the story of the bellwitch.

The early 1800s was a notorious time of westward expansion for citizens of a very young United
