Summary

Joan and John Stirland were murdered on the 8th August 2004 in the seaside resort of Trusthorpe. Mrs Stirland's son, Michael O'Brien, had killed another man outside a pub in Nottingham a year earlier, and the couple had been in fear for their lives ever since. Timothy Spencer QC would later describe Joan and John Stirland as the victims of "a calculated, ruthless and merciless execution."
