He recieved his Ph.D. from University of Calgary and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Ontario. In this conversation, we talk about the history of research on dinasaurs, what we used to know, what we know now, how our previous assumptions and knowledge has changed, how we go about daiting dinasaur fossils, how dinasaurs (which went extinct around 66 million years ago) relates to the age of the earth, and what do we do with "death" (among dinasaurs) happening long before the sin of Adam. https://nature.ca/en/our-science/science-experts/jordan-mallon/ Twitter Handle @Jordan_Mallon

Hey, friends. Welcome back to another episode of theology in the

0:03.0

raw. My guest today is Dr. Jordan Malin, who is a paleontologist who

0:08.1

specializes in research on dinosaurs, specifically dinosaur ecology.

0:13.2

And he has a special interest in horned dinosaurs. He is one of the few.

0:18.9

There's only about a thousand people like Jordan, who are actual paleontologists,

0:22.4

who specialize in research on dinosaurs. Jordan is also a Christian. So we

0:27.8

the bulk of our time, understanding the history of research about dinosaurs, what we know,

0:32.5

what we don't know, what we used to think we knew, and now where our knowledge has been corrected.

0:37.9

We talk about dating, dinosaurs, not like romantic dating, but figuring out how old

0:44.0

these dinosaurs were. And then once we start mentioning dates and years and ages, then that's

0:50.6

going to get into more theological questions about the age of the earth and how our understanding

0:55.8

of dinosaurs contributes to how we can date the age of the earth, specifically whether it's

1:01.3

a young earth or a older earth. So we get into all that much more. So please welcome to the show,

1:05.8

the one or only, Jordan Malin.

1:17.0

All right, friends. I'm here with Dr. Jordan Malin. The first paleontologists I've ever

1:21.6

had on the show. So I've recorded over a thousand episodes. So thanks for breaking us,

1:27.4

breaking some new ground with us. Happy to do it. Yeah, there's, you know, there are a ton of

1:33.2

paleontologists in the world. So I'm not surprised to hear I might be the first on your show.

1:37.3

I'm curious. Like a rough estimate. Are we talking like a few hundred, a few thousand,

1:42.5

a few dozen or oh, probably taught you're you're talking in the hundreds possible. It really

1:50.0

depends. I'm a vertebrate paleontologist, right? And so I work on animals with backbones

1:57.0

effectively. And there's an international society called the society of vertebrate paleontology.
