So the place I like to start is Luke 189.

It's a parable that Jesus tells to some people that were around him at the time. And he said that he told this parable to those who trusted them themselves that they were righteous and they treated others with contempt. And that was my life grown up. That was my life grown up in the church even, hearing the gospel, hearing things about

Jesus, who he was, reading things in the Bible. But my life was dominated by thinking that God

loved me because I did good things for him. My life was dominated by not wanting to be around people

who I deemed as the true sinners.

In that parable that Jesus tells, he tells this story of a Pharisee and a tax collector

who both go up to the temple to pray.

And the Pharisee says, Lord, thank you that I'm not like other men.
