0:45.0	I'm your host, Dr. Saline Gounder. Ralph Noise was a speech pathologist in a nursing home just outside St. Louis, Missouri.
1:08.3	In March, he started to see some early signs of the arrival of the coronavirus where he worked.
1:13.0	We started to see a couple of strange employee absences.
1:20.0	So we had maybe a week where we had three or four people just stop showing up to work.
1:26.4	COVID hit the nursing home hard in April.
1:29.0	We had our first, I call them our ground zero patient.
1:32.8	He was one of my patients that I was working with five days a week.
1:38.3	Ralph's patient was in his 70s.
1:40.5	He had had a series of strokes and other health issues that got in the way of him speaking normally.
1:45.0	As a speech pathologist, Ralph had to be close to him.
1:49.0	He was basically in this guy's mouth a lot.
1:52.0	So I was in very close contact mouth a lot.
1:52.8	So I was in very close contact with this person and you know I got a call Sunday night
1:57.8	late that he had been admitted to the hospital and he had tested positive for COVID and by that night I was
2:07.2	burning up with chills and fever. Ralph and then his wife both got COVID. He had a fever, a tightness in his
2:16.2	chest and a lot of fatigue. His symptoms lasted about three weeks, but he says it
2:21.3	took another two months to really get over it.
