Welcome back to R. L. Stein Story Club. I'm Ivy. I'm the keeper of these stories, and this is the season one finale. How did we get here so fast? Where did all the time go?

Questions I can't answer, but I can tell you this. Our finale makes me want to avoid fair rides

for the rest of my life. Today we meet Pete Dixon, who has made the fateful decision to visit

a carnival with his friends, Colin and Sherry. They're about to get on some rides. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, it's R. L. Stein's Story Club, so the better question might be,

what could possibly go right?

Let's start with something small, like a kitty ride. Yeah, you can handle a kitty ride, can't you Pete?

How many times are we gonna have this conversation?

Me and rides don't get along, but I do like a good elephant ear.

Let's get one of those.

A bunch of battered, deep fried, and covered in sugar.

It does sound delish.

Oh, I heard they put in a frying station this year.

They're gonna deep fry anything.

Twinkies, candy bars, fruit, mom's car keys.

Let's see if they'll deep fry your shoe. I'll donate my shoe if you eat it.

Uh, hard pass.

I know what you're trying to do.

You think you can distract me until we're sitting on a ride and it's too late.

Who? Us? No.

We just want to deep fry socks and bananas and gravel. It has nothing to do with you.
