Summary

In 2001, Tara Baker was a 23 year old law student at the University of Georgia in Athens. She had big dreams, goals, and a family who loved her back home. Everything changed when Tara was murdered in January of that year. In Season 1, we'll examine The Tara Baker Story. But we begin with Episode 1, The North Star. 1:06.3	politics and a passion for justice too. I know what you're thinking. What the does he have going on? Well, a lot. And as my friend Casey puts it, I'm kind of like an onion. And no, no, no, not because I don't put on deodorant or take enough showers. It's because there's a lot of layers here, and I hope I'll get to share some of my layers with you as we move throughout this journey together. My desire to start classic
1:28.2	city crime came from my true own experience with injustice and loss due to tragic circumstances.
1:34.6	I had a cousin who was murdered when I was just a child in the 90s, a best friend whose life was taken
1:40.1	from us when we were only 14 at the hands of a distracted driver. I hope to tell you more about
1:45.1	Jacob, by the way, later. And yes, those cases that came through the funeral home every single
1:50.0	day that will never leave my mind. Just as truly is something that we can all advocate for,
1:55.5	and I must say it's important now more than ever. And that's what I hope to accomplish

2:03.3	But enough of all of that, this podcast is not about me.
2:06.6	It's about crime right here in Athens, Georgia, better known to many as the Classic City.
2:10.9	It's a place that I and many of you have called home, whether for a moment in time as a student at the University of Georgia,
2:18.6	or you're an Athenian who's been here for years. For me, I'll personally tell you, I came here six years ago to go
2:23.7	here as a student, but I fell in love with this city and all it has to offer. And quite frankly,
2:29.5	I don't think I'll ever leave. Now, when I started this podcast, I really thought I would do one episode,
2:35.3	one story. Each episode would be about a different case with a few interviews here and there.
