Summary

Wyoming has been on fire lately... and while our homestead hasn't been in danger, we've had plenty of grassfires in our surrounding area. As such, I've been thinking a lot about how we can better prepare our property, our animals, and ourselves in the event of a fire. I'm joined today about wildfire mitigation specialist Madison Huges to discuss this and more. Join us as she shares how we can prepare our homesteads for fire, how to create an evacuation plan for our animals, the benefits...

Welcome back to the old-fashioned on-purpose podcast.

0:12.5

Today we are going to talk about a topic that has consumed a big part of our life personally, lately.

0:19.3

And it's also been a really big topic in the state of Wyoming

0:21.8

across the west. And really, I think the United States and Canada in general. And that topic is

0:26.1

wildfire. It's been a really dry summer in a lot of places. I know it's been incredibly

0:30.3

dry here for us in Wyoming. We've had a number of large grass fires. A lot of you reached out

0:35.1

1:05.1

soda fountain, but also just making sure he's there and making sure community members can get there

1:09.4

and help. So I was super intrigued when I got an email from today's guest,

1:14.2

who is not only passionate about wildfires, but also she's a homesteader.

1:18.3

And she likes to talk about how those two things can relate.

1:23.0

So Madison Hughes has a passion for wildfire mitigation,

1:26.4

specifically in communities.

1:27.9

And she has been focused on helping rural communities up in British Columbia, prepare,

1:33.1

mitigate, and prevent major wildfire disasters.

1:36.6

So she has a ton of expertise here, and I cannot wait to have this conversation.

1:41.5

I think it's so important for many of us, especially if you have acreage or even if you don't,
