I was on my phone until probably 2 o'clock this morning with different congressmen, staffers, and others about what's happening in Congress.

And I did not want to actually begin my show today

with more of the Kevin McCarthy soap opera,

but it kind of is the biggest news of the day.

Therefore, it kind of needs to be dealt with out of the gate.

And there are some interesting dynamics at play here.

So this is apparently the parameters of the deal and you should understand before we get into this that it's not a surefire thing.

Kevin McCarthy can only lose four votes for Speaker of the House. There are five members who have pledged they will not vote for him under any circumstance.

Chip Roy is a longtime friend of mine. He is a congressman from Texas. He had been Ted Cruz's chief of staff. He worked for Rick Perry.

He was the Deputy Attorney General of Texas for a while. He's now a member of Congress.

His congressional district kind of stretches from San Antonio to Austin. He is just outside of Austin.

He's too conservative for Austin. They redrew his district so he could be safely in this district as a staunch conservative,

and he is a conservative's conservative.

The McCarthy team says he is, Chip Roy is the only one they trust.
