Hello and welcome America. It is Eric Erickson here from my flagship station,

0:04.5

WSB in Atlanta, Georgia, out of the bunker and in the studio with people. I'm with you,

0:11.5

and I got a guess. This is actually the very first person I've ever had in this studio.

0:16.9

He's running for the United States Senate. And I, in all honesty, I'm not just saying this because you're sitting here.

0:23.7

Literally, I have had more requests to have you on the program as a candidate than any of the other candidates.

0:29.5

And so here you are, starting these conversations with candidates across the state of Georgia, running for the U.S. Senate.

0:35.5

Kelvin King joins me.

0:36.5

Welcome.

Hello, Eric. Thanks for having me here. I'm excited about it. So as I said to all the campaigns,

0:43.8

I just, we've got the eyes of the nation on Georgia, a number of candidates running. One gets

0:50.8

a lot of attention. The other is not so much. All of you have incredible bios. And so Kelvin King, here's your chance. Tell the audience, who are you? Well, sure. Thanks a lot, Eric. I mean, I'm a Georgia native. Born and raised here in Georgia, born and Macon, Georgia. My mom was only 15 years old when she had me, and and clearly I was unplanned but I thank them for

1:11.4

seeing value in my life which informs my pro-life position when I was about eight years old

1:16.9

we moved from Cobb County I mean from Bibb County to Cobb County and a couple years after that

1:21.8

the wheels fell out the wagon and my father started doing drugs and domestic violence in the home caused him to have to leave,

1:29.8

eventually was imprisoned, and it was just my mom and my little sister, and it was tough.

1:35.1

Thank God for grandmothers.

1:36.3

My grandmother retired early from Robin's Air Force Base and helped us out with food and money,

1:41.1

and I was able to finish high school.

1:42.7

I was in the talented and gifted program and finished with honors and gained an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy and my life changed after that. And at the academy, I, you know, that's a four-year college and I actually play football in college. And I know that there's another football player in my race. So I tell people, you know, if that's important to you, I was also an all-conference college football player. So I'd check out that box. But anyway, after graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy, I went into the real Air Force. I was a contracting officer in the Air Force. And for those who don't know what that is, my job was government procurement, government spending. I know fiscal matters. At the time, I thought it was a good

2:18.2

job to transition to corporate America, but now I see it was a perfect job for a U.S. Senate seat,

2:23.9

especially in this time of hyper spending in this inflationary period. And after I did my

2:29.2

service commitment, I went into corporate America for 10 years, and I got this itch. I wanted to start my own company and, you know, see what this whole American dream thing was all about. So I started my own construction company. I started by myself from scratch in a bedroom of my home. And that first year, I made enough money to move all the way to the basement of my home. And I know a lot of people know about those basement businesses. But we were able to grow and now I own a 12,000 square foot building over near the Brave Stadium.
