Nigel Mansell was 44 miles away from doing it in Adelaide,

when, as Murray Walker so famously put it,

Mansell was colossally taken out of contention when his left rear tire exploded at high speed.

For at long last, after years of requests from our audience, Bring Back

V10s is venturing back into the fearsome era of 1980s turbos to look back on one of F1's most

incredible title deciders, the 1986 Australian Grand Prix. Joining me, Glenn Freeman, to do that for the first and hopefully not last time, we have Ed Straar and Andrew Vanderberg.

Andy, when you heard we were doing this episode, I think your words to me in person were something like, I assume I'll be on that one.

So here you are and tell us, when you think of Adelaide 86, what's the first thing that comes to mind? So shout out to a beautiful acquaintance of ours, Richard Wiseman, for double-checking this, because I wanted to make sure it wasn't a false memory. But I remember getting up super early in the morning to watch this with my dad. So I wanted to make sure that it was actually broadcast live on the BBC and it was 3am. So I would have been 12 years old then. That would have been the first time. I'm sure that I would have been aware that there was a 3am or 3 o'clock in the morning. But obviously, you know, going into it as a PK fan, we'll talk about later and the whole tension and I've gone back

and watched this whole race and it instantly transported me back there that whole build-up

and on the grid I can remember that trying or I didn't need to try to stay awake I was so

buzzing for this race and what it was going to mean and then you know to play out the way it did

and we'll talk about one of the

most seismic ways of World Championship ever been concluded in all good time. But yeah,

it was very much worth the early start. Yeah, that's got me thinking. My first early starts,

I reckon was Suzuki and Adelaide 94 to Damon Hill going for the championship. I was a

Damon Hill fan then. And two very different experiences. Obviously, Zuckel was incredible and Adelaide was depressing. Ed, what are you choosing now? We're not doing V-10s. We're not doing the 90s today. What are you choosing from Adelaide 86? Well, firstly, I've got to point out that I also looked at what time everything was on in terms of the coverage.
