It was vibrant, it was loud, it was crazy, you had different agents and girls, boys, men.

You go out there and you have cars almost driving over curves trying to look back at you and like

it felt good. For the most part everybody had each other's best, everybody was looking out

at each other. It was kind of like a family without being a family.

Also being trans, like you go from being a minority and awkward to a goddess and a princess and a pop star.

So when you're trying to work, you can't work because the police are there, so you're like

standing there, being harassed, you're like I'm just trying to make money.

They got only one to jail once, but she must have been in jail a dozen times.

Whether it is sex workers on the stroll or trans people who still face daily discrimination

and injustice, members of the queer community are being left behind.

The police have always been failing the community of the village.

There was so much stigma and discrimination towards trans people, like trans women,

particularly in trans women of color, so they lived in the shadows of the community.

It's an enormous mental health struggle and especially when everywhere you go, the doors

slam shut in your face. I was a drag queen, I was a freak and they couldn't wait to get rid of me.
