Hello all and welcome to the season 10 finale and the latest edition of hometown legends.

Now I hope this special extended episode finds you warm, safe, and healthy.

Monsters Among Us Studios, aka My Cabin in the mountains of Southern California, was absolutely

blanketed in snow, and a brand new storm has just made its way in to drop its third foot

on us in the past five days.

And last I looked, it's maybe up to four now.

So, now that scene is set, and a snow is falling outside,

I'm going to kick off the evening with a hometown legend of my own.

One that you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

But first, please keep in mind that most of these hometown legends tend to have violent origins. So please, parental guidance is suggested.

Now a couple hours drive through windy mountain roads, or 25 short miles as the crow flies

from exactly where I'm sitting tonight, lies a strange spit of land peppered with pine trees

and granite boulders, a valley just outside the small town of Big Bear Lake.

It's a weird valley, just above Dead Man's Canyon and just below Dead Man's Ridge.

It's called Mayvan Canyon, a site of tragedy, murder, and perhaps government conspiracy.

In the winter of 1870, a pioneer family whom the canyon would be later named after,

was brutally murdered and left to die in the snow by the mother of the family, May Van.

After her deed, she slased open her own belly spilling her entrails before taking her own life.
