looking at Ezekiel chapters 1 through 3.

Ezekiel was the son of a priest and 30 years old.

Around this time, he likely would have been inaugurated as a priest in the temple of Jerusalem,

but instead, unbeknownst to him, he was about to begin his

prophetic career.

At the time this book was written, the Babylonian Empire was attacking the kingdom of

Judah and taking captives, and Ezekiel was one of the many

who had been captured. There were numerous false prophets sharing deceptive visions and claiming

that God would rescue Judah and those taken captive.

Ezekiel's message, however, was one of rebuke, claiming that the false prophets were providing

nothing but sinful false hope.

He declared that the full punishment the Babylonians would bring was well

deserved because of Israel's sin and rebellion. He wanted to turn people to true hope in

God through repentance and faith instead of simply wishful thinking, even if that meant he had to share a difficult message.

The first chapter shares the first of many visions Ezekiel received from God.

As an introduction into his prophetic ministry, he received visions Ezekiel and a man on a throne.
