In motorsports, racing to the top is better known as hill climbing. It's a discipline nearly

as old as cars themselves. The first ever documented hill climb occurring at La Turby in France

on January 31st, 1897. There are hill climbs in England, including the Shelsley Climb, which has

been running since 1905, New Zealand, the Alps, and East Africa, wherever there are mountains,

drivers race to the top. However, within the sport, there's one hill, a mountain, more accurately,

that towers above them all. The Super Bowl of Knowles, the World Cup of driving up. Forget the

Indy 500, this is the Colorado 14,000 feet, the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb.

Known as the Race to the Clouds, Pike's Peak is the premier event in the sport of hill climbing.

Since its inception in 1916, it's been an ever-evolving race that served as a reflection of every

era of the automobile, from Indy Car to Rally Car, from Jolopy to Electric, in the open division
