launch this true crime podcast called blood ties. Hi everyone my name is Molly and this is a podcast that my father and I have decided to start.

And we are very close and every Saturday we get together to have lunch and my dad has a history in crime

background in in yeah it all started in 1995 when I was asked by the official solicitor to the Supreme Court

to write an official biography of the Gloucester serial killer Frederick West.

It had been decided that a book should be written for the benefit at least, of West's children.

West by this time was dead.

He'd killed himself on the 1st of January 1995

at Winston Green Prison in Birmingham.

I was given the papers and his police interviews

and a great many other things,

including memorably his clothes.

But it started, I'd never written about murder before.

I'd written biographies before.

I'd written biographies of Kerry Grant and Sir James Goldsmith

and Terrence Rattigan and All Manor.

And I've been a journalist for, by that time, 30 years.
