The problem for Christianity is that it's been too successful.

Basically, everyone has accepted its essential principles. So what is the left

for the churches to do? Suddenly I think people are being forced to ask, well, why do I believe

in this idea of freedom and human rights, inequality and dignity and progress? What there is left

for the churches to do is to talk about the stuff that no one else is talking, which is all

the supernatural stuff. Can my secular humanist outlook actually sustain that?
