the Daily Grace Company. My name is Kyrell and I'm a writer on staff. Today we are discussing

Deuteronomy chapters 16 through 18. Deuteronomy chapter 16 details the holy festivals God wanted the

Israelites to observe. Now these festivals would commemorate God's salvation and cause the people

to remember his character and promises. First, they were to sacrifice a spotless and healthy animal

from their flock. This holiday pointed back to when the Israelites were saved from the last plague

in Egypt. To free his people from slavery and from Pharaoh's grip, God had sent an angel of death

to strike the first warns of Egypt. The Israelites were commanded to smear their doorposts with the

blood of a lamb. This blood would cover them from the wrath of God and the angel would pass over them.

The blood served as an indication that the Israelites were exercising faith in God to rescue them.

The next festival they were supposed to observe was the festival of unleavened bread. This was a

seven day feast after Passover when the Israelites were only allowed to eat unleavened bread which

is bread without yeast. This festival would remember their flight from Egypt. Bread with yeast takes

time to ferment and rise but the Israelites did not have time to add yeast to their bread. They

were in a hurry to leave Egypt. Unleavened bread would symbolize their departure. In the wilderness,

unleavened bread would also be a sign of God's daily provision and their need to rely on him for

sustenance. After entering the land, the Israelites were to bring the first fruits of the harvest to the

Lord. They would settle down in Canaan and begin sowing seeds for the nation to live off of.
