0:28.0	My name is Kaira and I'm a staff writer. I'm so happy to be here with you all today.
0:33.7	We're going to start the next book of the Bible which is Deuteronomy, specifically we are
0:39.2	looking at Deuteronomy chapters 1 through 3. This book mostly contains a repetition of
0:46.6	the laws the Lord gave Moses at Mount Sinai, and it's kind of a retelling of their journey
0:53.0	so far. Even though this book contains elements of the Israelites past, it's really cool because in
1:00.2	a way this book is a reflection that points to their future. The Israelites were still in the
1:07.4	wilderness, but they were so close to the Jordan River. This river divided the wilderness from
1:14.6	the land of Canaan, which was the place God had promised to give them. They had been wandering
1:21.1	in the wilderness for 40 years. Let me say that again. As Moses pointed out in verse 2 of chapter 1,
1:29.9	the distance from Egypt to Canaan was not that far. It would have taken about an 11 day journey on
1:37.2	foot, but instead it took the Israelites 40 years to reach that point because they were rebellious
1:45.9	and did not trust the Lord. Despite their disobedience, the Lord was faithful. He had brought them
1:54.8	through the trials of the wilderness and now they were on the brink of receiving God's covenant
2:01.0	promise. A covenant is a binding commitment and God was committed to bless his people.
2:08.6	Moses began the retelling of their wilderness journey with the scouts who first saw Canaan.
2:15.2	Moses sent men to observe the promised land and give them a report back. The report was great.
2:23.1	They confirmed that God had indeed given them a fertile land perfect for a nation to live off of.
2:31.5	They even brought back huge fruit as proof of its abundance, but this report did not strengthen
