Second Samuel is just the continuation of first Samuel.

It's actually the second scroll of the whole book.

So it picks up right where we left off.

In just a review, first Samuel was all about how God's people rejected him as king and

wanted a king like all of the other nations.

The first king of Israel saw was handsome and tall and even had the spirit of the Lord

in him at first, but he disobeyed God and relied on himself rather than the Lord.

And then the text introduced us to David.

And while he wasn't as handsome and tall as Saul, he was a man after God's own heart

and the Lord was with him.

At the end of first Samuel, Saul and his sons and his army perished at the hands of the

David had just fought an intense battle against the Amalekites and returned to Ziklag, the

city that the Philistine king of Gath gave David to live in.

David doesn't know yet that Saul is dead when he returns, but a young man comes to David

with torn clothes and dust on his head and tells him what happened.
