The 51-year-old who was born in Indianapolis has led many lives.

He was a closeted gay kid from a conservative religious family in the Midwest.

Hollywood-based entertainment journalist. Then a screenwriter whose work

attracted the interest of the likes of Stephen Spielberg. And then, before he knew

what hit him, starting in the late 90s, a TV power player of increasing
