Russia's central bank says it will hold an emergency meeting after the rubble fell to a 17-month

low against the dollar.

There's been international condemnation of threats by the co-leaders in Niger to charge

When Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year, it became the most sanctioned

nation on Earth.

There was plenty of speculation that the Russian economy would be brought to its knees,

but the Kremlin found ways around the embargoes and Russian GDP fell by just 2.1% last year.

However, the pain couldn't be avoided forever.

And on Monday, the rubble fell to its lowest level for nearly 17 months at more than 100

to a dollar, compared to an average of 74 rubles per dollar the year before the war.
