Hey there from CNN. I'm Krista Bow with the five things you need to know for Monday, July 21st.

Ukrainian president, Vladimir Solensky, is calling for peace talks with Russia next week.

The Russian side must stop avoiding decisions, the exchange of prisoners, the return of children,

the cessation of killings.

He's pushing for an agreement on a ceasefire as the U.S. has increased its pressure on Moscow to come to the table.

And the Kremlin says Russia does want new peace talks with Ukraine,

but says the two countries are still, quote, diametrically opposed on their demands.

The last round of ceasefire talks in Istanbul ended swiftly in early June,

with Russian and Ukrainian delegates meeting for barely over an hour before calling it quits.

Last week, President Donald Trump started the clock on a 50-day deadline for Russia to agree to a ceasefire

or see higher tariffs on Russian goods coming into the U.S.,

as well as secondary tariffs for any country that buys Russian oil and gas.

House Democrats are reportedly considering their own fight to redraw congressional maps

ahead of the midterm elections.
