Welcome to the Colette podcast. I'm newsletter. Many of us feared would be a one-sided war of conquest and occupation has now assumed a very different character.

Russia's attack has stalled in many parts of Ukraine, especially in the north near the capital of Kiev,

where the initial Russian Airborne and Special Forces

assaults were completely repelled.

Many Russian units have suffered unexpectedly high casualties, and several elite units

have been destroyed entirely, in some cases along with their commanding officers.

There are obviously many facets to this conflict, but in today's episode, featuring Royal Military College of Canada Professor Sean Maloney,

we're going to focus closely on the issue of military tactics.

What the Ukrainians are doing right, where the Russian attack faltered,

and what steps Vladimir Putin's forces might still take to keep their attack going,

including the terrifying possibility of Russian howitzers firing nuclear charged ammunition.

Professor Maloney is an expert on not only conventional forms of warfare in all modern theaters,

but also the history of the Cold War and nuclear strategy in particular.

He spoke to me on Tuesday afternoon.
