For the last two months in Ukraine, it has been dark.

When you're in Kiev now, you might be getting four hours of power a day at your house.

You might be getting eight hours of power a day if you're lucky.

Our colleague Ian Loveot is in Ukraine.

And people have said that they've really been organizing their lives in terms of when

they work around when they're going to have power.

You know, because even basic stuff like the street lights aren't on.

So if you're just like walking to a restaurant, you still need the flashlight just to walk

this couple of blocks.

Russian air strikes against the country's power grids have turned the lights off.

Part of a massive campaign started in early October.

There was an enormous barrage of cruise missiles launched at civilian sites all across the

country.

They started hitting power stations all over the country.

Ian says that as the air strikes continue, rolling blackouts are upending life for millions

in Ukraine.

And basically ever since then, every week or two, there's been another one of these

huge parages of missiles aimed at the power stations.

And they've slowly knocked out more and more and more of Ukraine's power generation.

It's not just the lights, but water and heat connected to the grids that are disrupted

as well.

And today, it is below freezing in the country's capital.
