0:23.4	Honestly, it's a bit harder in our urban areas than our rural areas.
0:27.6	As of January 2021, Alaska is number one.
0:32.2	It's the U.S. state that has vaccinated the largest percentage of its population against COVID-19.
0:38.9	That might seem surprising.
0:40.9	Rural areas typically have a harder time accessing medical care.
0:44.6	There are fewer hospitals, fewer doctors and nurses, and it's challenging to deliver
0:48.6	medical supplies into rugged wilderness.
0:51.3	So when it comes to fighting COVID-19, how has Alaska been so successful
0:56.0	reaching remote communities? We do have 229 independent sovereign tribes in the state of Alaska
1:01.9	who have their own distribution. We are partnered with them at every level to get it out.
1:06.8	They've got testing supplies. When they have the knowledge and resources, when they have
1:09.9	vaccine, they'll get it out, they'll get it done.
1:12.1	They just need the resources to do it.
1:13.9	Collaboration and coordination among agencies, the Department of Defense, Veteran Affairs,
1:19.9	and the Indian Health Service has been a big part of Alaska's success.
1:24.8	As cities and states across the U.S. continue to hone their distribution plans,
1:29.1	there are lessons to be learned. Starting with this one, use every resource available.
