Summary

Most tales of adventure follow a predictable arc: someone sets off on an epic trip, they encounter moments of great peril, and they come out the other side stronger. But every so often you hear about a different kind of transformational journey—one that takes place beyond the parameters of a wilderness expedition or a global quest, and one that allows you to truly understand the experiences of another human in a deeper way. For this episode of our Wild Files series, we bring you the story of Alex Showerman, an outdoor athlete who spent years trying to outrun a secret about herself, only to crash headlong into it. This episode of the Outside Podcast is brought to you by the all-new 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, a 4x4 SUV with seven available G.O.A.T. modes that enable it to go over any type of terrain. Sport, a four by four SUV with seven available goat modes that enable it to go

over any type of terrain. But some of the most impressive elements are in the

interior. My full name is Carrie Cannerley and I'm a color materials designer at Ford

Motor Company. I've been here forever. For Carrie, working on the Bronco Sport was

a passion project. The chance to bring to life a legendary vehicle for a new

generation. I'm born and raised and to try to miss

again so automotive has always been in my family. Okay, so you are like true blue.

Yes, yes. Members of Carrie's team went to great lengths to research design

elements, camping out with off-road enthusiasts and interviewing the kind of

0:53.2

people that demand the most from their SUVs. The result are features like

0:57.7

the available moly straps for securing gear. A concept that was inspired by high-end

1:03.0

backpacks, hiking boots and technical jackets. A guy that was a photographer. He

1:08.4

loved the idea of the moly straps on the seat back because he said he could

1:11.6

put his camera inside and then he could connect his lenses with just the hooks.

1:17.5

But simply attaching straps to standard fabric on the back of the seat

backs would never do. So the fabric that is behind the moly straps is actually a

1:26.9

police grade fabric that we put in police vehicles. Climb inside the Bronco Sport

1:31.9

and you'll find a range of rugged features like a safari style roof and lift gate

flood lamps for easier base camp setup. Learn more at Ford.com slash Bronco.
