15 years ago, I began putting together the words that filled this book, Uprising.

And the composite thoughts that fill those pages are the results of an endless number

of conversations with people who lived in a free world, but were not free.

And then women who, for all perceivable, observable reality, were free to choose whatever life

they wanted.

But the truth of the matter was that their choices had cost them their freedom.

And even when it came to faith, when we tried to engage in a relationship with God, it

was almost as if the freedom we longed for was elusive and sometimes almost magical.

Waiting for God to do something in a moment that would undo a mess that took a lifetime

to create.

Uprising is not about the kinds of revolutions that men are capable of bringing into this

world.

It is this unique revolution that Jesus brought into human history 2,000 years ago.

And even then, he was misunderstood.

Can you imagine stepping into history, born a slave, which by the way Jesus was, born

a slave for all of Israel, or slaves to the Roman Empire, to walk among people that

knew nothing but bondage, a history of captivity from one captive to another, from one bondage

to another, from one ruler to another, from one empire to another Israel knew a life of
