As your kids are growing up, one of the best opportunities you can give them is a chance to run some errands with you.

This is kind of a no-brainer for me. Out of practicality, I just put a kid in the backseat of the car every time I went to the hardware

store and if it was a plumbing job that meant like three times in one day or if I was going

to go over and drop something off at somebody's house, I put a child in the back seat.

In their car seat, they were kind of a locked in audience, but it allowed us to have some really

good conversations and opportunities for them to see how I might

treat other people.

Kay talked with Jim Daly and me about how parents can approach

this very topic of running errands.

And in a previous episode, she described how she taught her kids

how to pump gas at the gas station.

Caveat, it's not legal to have kids doing that in some states.

I'm not sure about that, but you get the concept.

You talk about that in the book is a good way to teach.
