0:03.2	homeless living in a shelter with three kids.

0:08.6	Back home in Richmond, California.
0:10.0	What was this?
0:10.8	This was 19, my youngest is 23.
0:14.2	So this was 19, maybe 99, because he was born in 98.
0:19.2	So it was about 99.
0:20.5	And I was leaving an abusive relationship
0:22.0	so I moved back home to California.
0:24.6	But I didn't have any family there to be like,
0:27.8	I got to you, right?
0:29.2	So I'm one of those people where before you mistreat me,
0:31.8	I will go to the shelter and figure it out myself.
0:34.7	So that's what I did.
0:36.0	And when I was there, people used to say,
0:37.6	you don't look like a shelter girl.
0:39.1	And I said, oh, I'm just passing through.
0:41.0	But in those moments, I said, who do I want to be?
0:45.2	I didn't have any role models that I could really look up to
0:48.4	to say, that's what I wanted to be.
