fabulous interns, Isabel Tweet, for case number 10. Now today is going to be a little bit different

than our past cases and I'll tell you why.

As many of you may know, the American Board of Emergency Physicians, or ABIM, has changed the

format of their oral boards exam, now called the Certifying Exam for 2026. Now, I have not yet

taken my certifying exam, but ABEM has published

materials online to help those who are preparing for the exam to figure out what might look

different than in past years. To my understanding, they are going to still be, there are still

going to be clinical cases that you discuss with another physician evaluator.

However, these cases are going to be less of a role play scenario and more of a structured

discussion.

Now, they will still have some cases involving standardized patients that are geared more towards

demonstration of communication and conflict management skills,

ultrasound skills, and procedural skills. But today I'm going to try to do something new by

attempting to mimic the style of the new clinical cases based on the materials that ABIM has put out.
