Summary

Jeff Ratcliffe breaks down the five rookie sleepers he loves in 2021 fantasy football redraft leagues. He kicks things off with why he's targeting Trey Lance ahead of Justin Fields in the late rounds of your 1QB leagues. Jeff then gives you two running backs to target for upside in Rounds 6 or 7 of drafts. He wraps things up with two rookie wide receivers to go after in the late rounds of your drafts.

What is up, it's the rant, my name is Jeff Rackliffe, and it is Friday, July 30th.

0:24.0

We're about to do it, man.

0:25.4

August is basically here, fantasy football draft season upon us, and you know, this is the time of year where a lot of people wake up from the fantasy football hibernation, right?

0:35.4

And I get it, I totally get why people tune out the NFL, not everybody gets paid to cover the NFL like I do, so I get it, I get it.

0:45.4

After the season's done and the season man, the fantasy football season, it is a marathon, but it's also a whole bunch of sprints.

0:54.4

Every stinking week is a sprint to get to Thursday and then to get to Sunday with your lineups every week and you burn out a lot of people do.

1:05.4

I've been there myself, burn out by the time you get to the Super Bowl, you're like, I'm going to start paying attention to something else.

1:12.4

I'm going to tune out for a while, maybe a check back in for the NFL draft, but largely you don't pay that much attention, right? And I get it.

1:19.4

But this is the time of year where everybody's back in full swing and this is the time of year where everybody really gets fully caught up some people don't.

1:27.4

The guy who shows up at your fantasy football draft with a magazine that he bought from like Walmart 10 minutes ago.

1:34.4

Yeah, that guy's never going to catch up, but but largely most people are catching up right now.

1:39.4

And a lot of people get caught up on the big name rookies, right? You know, at this point, it's not going to be a surprise to anybody when Najee Harris goes in the second round, right?

1:50.4

Jamar Chase is going to be drafted in the middle rounds. Kyle Pitz will probably be drafted in the fourth or fifth round. Trevor Lawrence will be drafted in the late rounds as a late round quarter back.

2:00.4

You'll see Travis C. TN and Javonte Williams drafted what round four, round five and 12 team leagues, Devonte Smith.

2:07.4

People know who he is because he won the darn highs, Matrophy, even Jalen Waddle because he played for Alabama.

2:13.4

They know who these guys are, but there are a lot of other rookies. I think we need to know because every year we see rookies who surprise even guys who have somewhat bigger names.

2:23.4

I mean, look to last year. Okay, obviously Jonathan Taylor. He ultimately delivered. He ended up being a top 10 fantasy running back and he was lights out down the stretch, even though the beginning of the year wasn't that great.

2:34.4

He did deliver, right? And he was a big name and people knew who he was. They didn't necessarily know who James Robinson was and obviously he finishes the top 10 fantasy option as well.

2:47.4

Came out of the woodwork. Justin Herbert, people knew who he was, but I don't think anybody really believed he could be a big time fantasy factor finishes QB 10 and probably went undrafted in your league or leagues plural.

3:00.4

Justin Jefferson, a first round pick, but he was in 11th round ADP and obviously he took the fantasy world by storm last year and came as a bit of a surprise.

3:11.4

So that's what I mean. They don't necessarily have to be completely under the radar guys like James Robinson to be rookie sleepers in redraft leagues. Now I'm not talking to the dynasty crowd right now. And if you're a dynasty person, I see you, but I'm not talking to that crowd right now. I am specifically talking to the redraft crowd.

3:31.4

Who are guys who can be sleepers outside of Naji Harris, Kyle Pits, Jamara Chase, Lawrence, ETN, Javante Williams, Devante Smith, or Jalen Waddle, like those are the biggest names. Who are the guys beyond that who can possibly have a big fantasy impact this year in their rookie season.
