Today we are looking at the 1981 attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan.

Ronald Reagan had been president less than 70 days when he was shot while leaving the

Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC.

The gunman, John Hinckley, Jr. was just feet away and the president was wounded when one

of the bullets ricocheted off the limousine and struck him under the left armpit.

Three others were also injured that day, including press secretary James Brady.

After 12 days in the hospital, President Reagan was able to return to the White House, but
