Romulus and Remus.

Blow this is Bertie and I'm here with a story about the foundation of the great city of Rome.

The story has some history in it but also elements of a fairytale.

You can decide for yourself which parts are true and which parts might be myth.

And upon a time about 2,800 years ago there was a city in Italy called Albalonga.

Its name means white and long.

The king of Albalonga was called Numator and his brother was Amulius.

Now Amulius thought that he could do a better job as king than Numator was managing.

So one day he gathered together some rough men, invaded the palace and dragged Numator

off his throne.

After that there wasn't much brotherly love between Numator and Amulius.

Sometime later the daughter of Numator, Sylvia, gave birth to twin boys.

Some say that the father of those boys was Mars the God of War.

In any rate the tiny babies were destined to achieve great things.

When Amulius heard about his brother's new grandchildren he was afraid that one day

when the boys were grown into men they would take revenge on him.

It was better to act sooner rather than later so he ordered an old servant to take the

babies from their mother.

The old man did not like these orders but he did as he was told.

He put the babies in a basket and took them down to the river.

At the time it had been raining for several weeks and the tyber had over flown its banks.

When the servant set the basket down in the flood water he watched it float off downstream
