0:00.0	Romans 8.28 through 30 is one of the most referenced passages by Calvinist to support their view of individual election to effectual salvation.
0:10.5	Verse 28 reads,
0:12.0	And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him and who have been called according to his purpose.
0:19.6	Now before proceeding, let's look at the context
0:22.3	of the passage. Remember what we've learned. A text, without a context, is a pretext for a proof
0:28.9	text. Earlier in the chapter, Paul wrote, We know that the whole creation has been groaning,
0:35.3	as in the pains of childbirth, right up into the present time.
0:39.2	Paul goes on to encourage the believers, that we wait eagerly for the hope of our glorification
0:44.5	as we endure through the sufferings today. And he reminds us that the spirit will help us when
0:50.1	we pray in our weakness, with groaningsings and words that we cannot possibly even understand.
0:57.0	In verse 28, there is a shift to provide comfort for believers who in their weakness are suffering.
1:04.5	And Paul reminds the Christians, we know that in all things God will work things out for good.
1:11.5	He will redeem the bad that is happening for those who love him, those of us who have been
1:17.4	called according to his purpose.
1:20.3	And how do we know that God will do this?
1:23.0	Well, just look at all that God has done for those who followed him before.
1:29.7	Which leads right in to verse 29, for those he foreknew. Notice the shift to the past tense in verse 29. He references those
1:38.8	foreknown in the past. In fact, all the verbs from verse 29 and following are in the heiast active and
1:47.0	dictative tenses, which indicates that the action of the verb has already taken place with respect
1:52.5	to the subject of the verb. So when we read verse 30, it says, and those he predestined he also
1:59.5	called. Those he called, he also called. Those he called he also justified.
2:02.4	Those he justified, he also glorified. Again, all in the past tense, which the most basic
