Summary

Starting a new book! Warning though, this book doesn’t actually contain any Romans or like badass Roman battles or something. It’s just a really boring letter or “EPISTLE” for the super fancy among you. Paul is a huge blowhard who pretty much single handedly inflicted this Christianity crap on us. Punch him in the nuts … Continue reading Romans 1-4 →

Last week on Thomas in the Bible, the new governor Festus, who Thomas calls Festivus,

0:10.2

just like the rest of us, considers the charges against Paul. Paul appeals to have his case

0:14.0

taken to the emperor in order to avoid the wrath of the Jews, and he meets King Agrippa, who is agripped

0:18.7

by his tail and agrees to send him off by boat to Rome. So we sat right back and heard a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, where Paul had a vision and the weather sunk their ship. After a stay in Malta, they finally get Paul to Rome, where he doesn't ever seem to stand trial, but keeps on preaching Jibis. And that's the end of acts, thank God. What's up next? Stay tuned and we'll find out this week in Thomas and the Bible.

Ah, such a good intro. Great job, Kevin. All right. We are on to the Romans. Friends,

0:53.9

Romans, countrymen. Lend me your ears. And that's essentially what's

0:58.9

happening here because Paul, I've learned, so Romans is, it smuggles it in because it's actually a letter

1:06.8

to the Romans in general by Paul. So it's not, see, I thought it was going to be like

1:13.3

about the Romans or by the Romans, by Romans for Romans. But no, it's more of Paul. And spoiler alert,

1:25.2

we get, I think, quite a bit more of Paul. It turns out the New Testament is actually

1:29.8

just Paul. It's one guy. I didn't even quite realize this because I was trying not to look too

1:35.3

much ahead, because I've never read the New Testament at all. I've heard about it, of course,

1:40.7

but anyway, so Romans is a Pauline epistle, which is a fancy way of saying a letter

1:49.7

that Paul wrote. And there's a bunch of these epistles, a fancy word, I guess. The technical

1:57.7

difference between epistle and a letter is that a letter is just actually meant to be a letter.

2:03.0

Like, oh, hey, how's it going? This guy? You're writing to a person. And an epistle is actually like art in the form of a letter or a lit. Like, it's a form.

2:11.8

You know, so it's, it takes the form of a letter, but it's, it's actually meant for a meant for a wide audience. So I'm not sure what the

2:21.3

point of it is, but it's really weird. So in terms of this timeline, I mean, a lot of you probably

2:27.4

already know this, but in doing the research, Paul is much, Paul is later. So there's all the

2:32.1

apostles, there's Jesus, he dies, then there's the apostles and all that.

2:36.3

And then somewhere along the line, probably 25 to 30 years after Jesus, that's when Paul has his revelation, his like, you know, vision of Jesus.

2:49.3

And then go another 20 years, and he's writing all these

...
