This episode takes us behind the scenes of director Alfonso Quaron's new semi-biographical drama, Roma.

Set in the early 1970s, the film recalls Mr. Quarone's own upbringing in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City and serves as a love letter to the women who raised

him during a time of domestic strife and social hierarchy.

In addition to writing and directing, Mr. Quarone also co-produced, co-edited, and photographed

the film. In addition to Roma, Mr. Quarron also co-produced, co-edited, and photographed the film.

In addition to Roma, Mr. Quarron's credits include the feature films Children of Men,

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Asgaband,

Ito Mama Tambien, Great Expectations, A Little Princess, and the pilot for the series, Believe.

He won both the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement and Feature Film and the Academy Award for Best Director for his 2013 film, Gravity.

Following a recent screening of the film at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles,

Mr. Quarong spoke with director Alejandro Iniaritu about filming

Roma. During their conversation, Mr. Quarron discusses conveying his memories

cinematically, communicating with the crew and cast without a script, and finding the

cast that match the looks and the feel of the people from his life.
