Summary

Your big goals don’t have to change with “The Change,” but your training, nutrition, and mindset sure do. This week, long time road and track cyclist Cheryl Osborne, 55, shares how she’s chasing a gold medal and championship jersey at the USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships this fall. Her strategy includes a healthy dose of sprint training and lifting heavy sh*t along with sound nutrition and lots of rest and easy rides. Cheryl, who works as a security specialist for the Department of Homeland Security, started her career in the sport of cycling as one of the sole women--and the sole Black woman at the time--in her region 25 years ago. In 1999, she started Artemis Racing (which now includes a club portion called Artemis Cycling) based in Bethesda, Maryland to help more women find the love of riding and racing. She continues that passion today through Artemis (which is still going strong) and as a board member and mentor at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania.

And as many of you know, when you're in a sport for a couple

0:39.3

or more decades, you see people come and you see people go. And maybe you are one of those people

0:44.5

who has come and gone. But there are also a few who are still out there towing the line,

0:50.1

showing up on the starting lines, and otherwise fully engaged in the sport.

0:54.9

My guest this week is definitely one of those women.

Cheryl Osborne, who is a badass road and track cyclist in the Mid-Atlantic region,

1:04.3

has been at it just like I have for a few decades,

1:07.5

and she still has big lofty goals today. I met Cheryl in 1999 or 2000. We couldn't

1:16.7

quite remember the exact year. She had just started the bike racing team, Artemis Racing,

1:21.6

which put on some really great clinics where you could go and learn how to handle and race a

1:25.7

road bike without crashing, hopefully.

1:28.5

And I was there with a friend who was having some crashes and really needed some skill

1:32.8

work and it really worked.

1:34.8

And Artemis Racing is still going strong just like Cheryl today, which is awesome.

1:40.8

She started racing in 2010 and her first race was a championship race on the track, of all things.

1:48.1

And even better, she is still racing.

1:51.6

Yes, that's awesome.
